About Founder - Kris Furrow

Dogs depend on our care and put their trust entirely in our hands. Over the course of 12 years as a volunteer working with dog rescue organizations, assistance dogs and shelters, and as a professional trainer, Kris Furrow has seen first-hand what happens when dogs are not socialized.

As a professional dog trainer, Kris specializes in schooling young dogs in the behaviors they need to know to become great family members - instead of ending up at a shelter or just stuck in the backyard.  She focuses on bond based training.

Kris follows the best practices of the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers. She focuses on:

  • positive, force-free techniques

  • teamwork between trainer, owner and dog

  • setting proper expectations for each dog

  • building and strengthening the bond

  • getting you the results you want

Education and working with animals have been Kris's lifelong pursuits. As a volunteer for the Columbus Zoo, she introduced preschoolers to resident animals and instructed on conservation.

As a professionally licensed teacher, then an executive in the technology industry, she's seen how instruction, teamwork and recognition create success.

And as a busy executive pressed for time, she's made her own mistakes raising her dogs of the past. She's made it her mission to help others avoid the same.

As an owner of a dog with hip displasia she became interested in and pursued education in dog fitness. She is now a FitPAWS Master Trainer and a certified K9 Fit Club Master Trainer.

Kris' goal is to share the knowledge so that every young dog becomes the kind of companion you take with you - not an animal that has issues and is left at home. She gets to the goal with an approach centered on love and kindness, by seeing the best in every dog. She believes positive dog training is most effective in getting your canine in the habit of good behavior and developing that lasting bond.

Kris has lived in East Cobb for over 30 years, actively involved in the community and her son graduated from Walton High School.  Family Dog Training is family owned and operated resulting from Kris' passion for dogs. Kris currently has one golden retriever, the family's eight golden, a golden doodle and the various dogs that she fosters.
